Class Description
This is a casting call for the next great Shakespearean actors! Miss Megan and Miss Emily will once again be offering their beloved class on “Performing Shakespeare.” When it comes to understanding the Bard, there is nothing like having to put yourself in the shoes of his characters and bring them to life onstage. After all, Shakespeare’s plays were meant to be performed!
Over the course of four meetings, we will be looking at two of Shakespeare’s most famous plays: one tragedy and one comedy. We will spend one meeting discussing each play and thinking about key issues for staging it, then we will spend the following meeting putting those ideas into practice as we take turns doing dramatic readings of important passages.
Students are encouraged (though not required) to show their video over Zoom to help enliven the “performative” elements of this class.
Class Schedule and Reading Assignments
Classes will be held on Thursdays at 9:00 AM Pacific / 12:00PM Eastern and run between 90 minutes and 2 hours. Students should come to class having read the play to be discussed.
